These are just a few preliminary thoughts I had while glancing from the Shakeology ingredient lists on my packets to the dosages of several of the same supplements in my kitchen.
At first
glance, I think that Shakeology contains some hard-to-find, exotic,
valuable supplements like Sacha Inchi powder; and also some
easier-to-find, very valuable things like the horrible-tasting maca
root. I also noted that their "proprietary blends" often contain far
less than the recommended amounts of specific supplements in some cases
(the digestive enzymes, for instance), and adequate amounts in other
cases (ashwagandha, flax, and MSM, for example).
But our bodies
evolved eating WHOLE foods, not powdered, encapsulated versions or
derivatives thereof, so it is still better to obtain nutrients from
food. Commercialized forms like this "trick" our bodies, and often our
systems don't know how to metabolize them. However, given the average
American diet and our federal subsidization of harmful additives in all
foods, I think that Shakeology is very helpful in general.
